I got many negative responses to my Marathon Type Training Blog Post.

Marathon Training Proves Cardio Has Major Flaws

And your opinions are always welcomed.

If i’m going to put my opinion online then you can too!

With that in mind I just had to post this pic I found online as a picture is worth a thousand words.

This is exactly what I saw when I watched the Marathon a few weeks ago.

Person after person passing by with very little muscle and way too much fat.

And considering how hard they train this should not be.

How can this be?

It’s simple. Long distance running eats up muscle which slows your metabolism.

Less Muscle = More Fat

Like I said in my Marathon Training Post:

Even high school sprinters look better than elite marathoners and that says a lot.

So if your goal is muscle building and fat loss you high intensity exercises like Stairs, Hill Sprints or Resistance Training are the way to go!

Below is a common question I get quite often about interval type training.

I’m sure many were in response the The Truth About Cardio Post from Craig Ballanytyne.

Question?

Hey Virgil

I’d love to implement interval training into my program

My question is can I do interval training on a treadmill, stair master or elliptical trainer

Answer:

Of course you can.

Cardio interval training can be done almost anywhere

Interval means you alternate harder work with lighter work or even rest

For example on your typical treadmill you can alternate a hard run at 8 MPH for 1 minute followed by an easy run at 5 MPH for 1 minute. You simply then repeat this sequence.

Just apply that to any cardio machine to create an interval workout.

It is however much easier and more effective to do interval work on real surfaces like a track, stairs or hills which is why they are big part of my NGN Program.

http://nogymnecessary.com/hill-sprints.html

http://nogymnecessary.com/stair-exercises.html

On real surfaces it’s much easier to do very hard or even extremely hard intervals then it is on machines.

The transition from a very tough interval is also smooth as you can simply stop or slow down for your easy interval.

For example If you run up stairs for 30 seconds all you have to do is stop or walk for your easy interval.

On a treadmill you have to actually press the buttons to slow down which can be a little tricky.

It can be done and is still effective but the real deal is the best choice if you have it available.

Hello again

First of course is to wish you and your loved ones a wonderful weekend this 4th of July.

So far so good here in Brooklyn as the weather is nice today and it looks like it will hold up this weekend as well.

Tomorrow it’s off to Prospect Park for a big family BBQ!

It does not get better than that.

Since this weekend is a big BBQ weekend I wanted to leave you with a tough NGN workout

I’ll also leave you with an NGN reader question at the end.

In this workout you are going for 20 minutes with no rest in between each exercise.

If you are a beginner you will only do 1/2 the reps listed & rest 30-60 seconds between every 2 exercises.

Stop when you get to 20 minutes and just keep track of how many times you go through the entire circuit.

Enjoy!

Regular Body weight Squats 20
Body Weight Rows 15
Regular Pushups 15
Hip Extensions 20
Core Rotations 20
Lunge in Place 10 each leg
Plank Hold 30 seconds
Abdominal Curls 15

Repeat as many times as you can until you reach 20 minutes.

Let me know how it goes and remember each of these exercises is explained in detail via in my NGN program:
http://www.nogymnecessary.com/

And last is an NGN reader question:

Hey Virgil

What do you suggest for someone that can’t do pullups or can’t find something to pull off of?

Answer: I suggest you invest in a set of resistance bands. I personally use bands by Bodylastics: http://tinyurl.com/nxehy3

Here’s a quick review on them over at my web site:
http://www.nogymnecessary.com/bodylasticsresistancebands.html

And As always

My Best To You In
Strength, Happiness & Health

http://tinyurl.com/lk5x4s

Hello again

How is your day going so far?

I hope great as mine is going well with a nice walk to the gym followed by a quick Get Fit Anywhere Medley and then a nice sauna. Then I went for a fresh juice drink at the juice bar followed by a chicken breasts & veggies

Now back to todays topic:

Here is a reader question from my NGN program

Dear Virgil I’ve been consistently following your NGN program for the last 4 weeks yet I’ve still to lose much weight or body fat? I’m exercising about 4 days a week is there something I’m doing wrong?

First thing first.

What are you eating because if you are going to give me only what you do physically then I really can’t help you. Half the equation is missing my friend. In fact I would say that more than half is missing and here’s why:

Most people will exercise at most 5 times a week for less than an hour. Now compare that to the fact that we all eat everyday and eat a few times a day. What you put in your mouth is always going to be a bigger part of the equation when it comes to reaching your goals. You made no mention of what you eat as if it has nothing to do with your success. Here’s what are you gonna do: You are going to list everything you eat in this week. Everything!
Send it to me via email and we will start to tackle this problem.

Speak to you in a week

====================

Is this your problem too?

It is for many people.

In fact Vince Delmonte of Empowered Nutrition says that 98% of the population have absolutely no idea what goes into their mouth or ever put together a written food plan. They will put together an exercise plan but not a food plan and most times that spells failure Big mistake says Vince as there is no way to out train a poor diet.
Vince even created a Done For Your Meal Plan System like no other here: http://tinyurl.com/lk5x4s

And the best part is that all the guess work is taken out You’ll know exactly what to eat, how to prepare it and exactly what to buy at the supermarket.

Well done Vince! Here’s the site once again:

Done For You Meal Plans: http://tinyurl.com/lk5x4s

And as always If you decide to buy these meal plans you get my entire NGN System Absolutely Free as an added bonus! ($77.00 Value)

Just forward your receipt to support@virgilaponte.com and I will send you the download links to my entire NGN System
