New York City Marathon Proves that Cardio has Major Flaws

As I was walking to see my dentist last  Sunday I got a chance to see the New York City Marathon as they came through the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn.

A few things came to mind as I watched:

First lets start with the good stuff:

God Bless all these people because running a  Marathon is certainly an extra ordinary feat.

My foot Dr. actually did it for the first time and finished at 3:25.

Go Dr. Jurcisim!!

Now the not so good stuff:

If fat loss and looking great is your ultimate goal then The NYC Marathon is living proof that long slow distance running is most ineffecient  and ineffective way to reach these goals.

I saw so many people that are in great shape but don’t look it and their training program (marathon training) is a direct result of this.

All you need to do is look at  elite marathoners to see what you can expect from Marathon training (Long Slow Distance Cardio or LSD).

Expect a weak a sometime sickly looking body.

Hop over to the other side and take a look at elite sprinters.

They always look amazing.

They are muscular and have low body fat levels.

Heck even high school sprinters look much better than elite marathoners.

That should say a lot.

Marathon training is the easiert way to lose muscle, make you weaker and slower. On top of that it teaches your body to be more effecient at what most of don’twant: Fat Storage!

So what’s the lesson in all this

If you like endurance running then of course go for it.

But if you are looking for the most effective fat loss methods use high intensity exercises like hill sprints, stairs and resistance training.

You’ll look better and have a lot more time on your hands.
